The Undertaker vs.??????? at Wrestlemania 29: You Decide

Postby Ed Burns » Wed Jul 04, 2012 9:46 am

This will be the subjective, yet speculative topic thread until Wrestlemania 29. This will also be the official topic for discussion of who will possibly be Taker's opponent at Mania 29 from here onward. You decide who The Undertaker will wrestle at Wrestlemania 29.

You must also state your reasons as to why you believe your choice will be the guy. I've added a Poll of 12 choices so we can tabulate votes, even though it's been dead around here as of late. I know some of the choices have no chance of wrestling Taker at Wrestlemania 29. I added them in in the event the WWE might go in the direction of a not so predictable opponent for Taker.

I want Taker to face Cena because it a match everyone wants to see so do I. I mean you do not see a lot of Taker vs Cena matches and I wish there was more of them.

Although I doubt it will happen, I'd like to see him go up against Cena. I can see Cena as being a threat to the streak, since they haven't had a match together in years, and I fully believe that Cena and 'Taker can pull off a match worthy of WrestleMania. Plus, I would really like to see 'Taker add a new name to his list of WrestleMania victims.

I'd love to see him face Chris Jericho or CM Punk but it's likely he'll face Lesnar or cena.

AJ!

But on a serious note, The Rock, since he's never fought him at Wrestlemania and they're both my favorite male wrestlers. :smt001

My vote goes to Cena as, even though I don't like how he's used, Cena's at the top of the tree, has done lots (title wins, Royal Rumble etc) yet not once has he challenged the streak. They would pull off a match that would please the fans and make them think the streak was "threatened like never before".

Ive said a lot that I can see Lesner and taker at WM, might not be this year but I think it will be

Lesner will have a fued with HHH and Lesner will become a big dog, Takers streak will be the Gem in his career but will fail and fit in with HHH's story about him leaving after he gets to the top and then it gets hard.

Think Cena would be a good choice except they wont want cena having a loosing streak and he already lost to rock last year, and miz the year before, i dont think they will want either cena or taker loosing at WM.

The rock would be more likely but there would have been a build up right after last WM if it was that. Next options would be big show, punk or shamus as alternatives, they are all good choices.

I've already stated my reasons why Lesnar should be Taker's opponent at WrestleMania 29, buy i will post the full list of reasons here (copy-past):

1) A serious factor for their story would be the fact that Taker never beat Lesnar one-on-one, but Taker never lost a WrestleMania either.
2) Another factor is that Taker stayed loyal to the WWE for over 2 decades and earned the title of the most respected man in the locker room, unlike Lesnar who wasn’t loyal and quit, and that’s why he lost almost all the respect he had and could have. That makes both of them complete opposites of each other.
3) A second opposites factor is that Lesnar can claim that he is real and Taker is just smoke and mirrors while Taker can and will prove to Lesnar that he is more real that Lesnar ever was, and even though that he did quit (storyline-wise) in 1999, at least he admitted he was wrong and he never left on his own again nor try to get some ridiculous parks, unlike Lesnar who did try to get them and couldn’t last a month before he quit again (storyline-wise).
4) They’re both very familiar with the MMA style. Taker adopted some MMA moves, including “Hell’s Gate” (a modified Gogoplata) and Lesnar is a former UFC fighter who was also the UFC heavyweight champion.
5) They are both monstrous athletes that are both got the total package of speed, size, strength, agility and dominant presence that was is strong that you could see from the very beginning that they are gonna be mega stars (or icon in the case of Taker).

I've stated my reasons as to why I believe Cena gets a shot at ending the Streak. I believe Taker/Lesnar happens at Survivor Series. I believe the Rock gets Lesnar at Wrestlemania 29.

I believe it'll be Cena. He's currently the face of the Company, and WWE will want to pit it's 2 biggest stars against each other at the show of shows.

When WWE ran the video of stars talking about the End Of An Era match, Cena was the only one that stated he's not throwing his hat in that, and that he doesn't see why Taker would want to come back for #21...

WWE drops little tidbits like that sometimes, maybe to throw the internet folks off, or as hints... This past year, we speculated as to who Taker would wrestle at Mania 28, even though we full well knew the Taker/HHH storyline arc would encompass at least 2 years, especially when HHH said he'd be waiting for Taker the night after Mania 27... I believe if Taker faces Cena, it will be for 2 consecutive Mania matches, as the Streak has grown so prominent, that only one match between them won't be enough. It happened with HBK, and HHH... I see no reason why Cena wouldn't get that same treatment from WWE.

Somehow I'm beginning to doubt if WWE would put 2 faces in the same match together like they have done in the past. If Undertaker faces Cena at WM29, one of them may temporarily turn heel until after WM29. If however Undertaker faces Brock Lesnar, Chris Jericho or Aberto Del Rio then that would make it more even, face vs heel. Whatever happens, it should be a classic, especially when Undertaker is invovled.

I've watched the footage again, and Cena didn't say such thing at all. I've watched it from the RAW show itself.

It shouldn't be a problem at all. Neither Taker nor Cena would need to turn heel, the match will still be even just because of how big of stars they are. It worked in the past, and there is no reason it wouldn't work In face, WWE actually started to book matches between two heels or matches that binding confrontations between two heels more frequently, which proves even more why neither man should turn heel if they hopefully face each other at WM in the future.

Check the video starting at the 2:19 mark. Cena most certainly does say it.

Here, as a matter of fact, I'll quote it exactly for you in bold.

"I know he holds the streak near, and dear, but I don't see any reason for him to try for 21st. After seeing the last four matches he's had at WrestleMania, I am certainly not involved with throwing my name in that hat."

Cena indeed said that, but Orton, Miz and Regal also claimed, each of them in certain way, that Taker has gone (sorry of it irritates anyone id it sound like yet another discussion about the R word) because he has nothing left to prove. So in that logic, those claims can interpreted as for Taker Vs Miz, who can be become someone worthy to challenge the Streak in the future, at WM, or Taker Vs. Orton, who has challenged Taker for a WM match in the past but now he is a much bigger star then he was back in 2005, and Taker already face Kane, HBK and HHH more then once at WM so it could happen, base on those matches as well as Orton's claims.

As for the tidbits, that doesn't mean that Cena is Taker's next WM opponent. That's not the first time that WWE teasing a possible match and it does happen only a year or 2 later, or don't even occurred at all. Just look at Taker Vs. HBK from WM 25. They teased it in both the 2007 and 2008 Royal Rumble events, during the Rumble matches themselves, and then in the 2009 Rumble during a back stage segment with Taker, Shawn and JBL. So they started teasing in 2007, yet the match occurred only in WM 25 in 2009, two years later. Also, until the 02.21.2011 edition of RAW, will all thought that Taker is gonna face Wade Barret at WM 27, but when Taker came to the ring to talk about the outcome of the Buried Alive match win Kane back in Bragging Rights 2010 when the Nexus involved just to make a name for themselves at Taker's expense, HHH showed up and challenged Taker for WM 27, and Taker accepted just to show that he isn't a coward, with Taker giving Trips a message: “You don't have a chance against me [Taker smirks, puts the hat back on and started to walk out the ring] but I do accept your challenge and you will rest in peace [Taker turns back to Trips and do his signature Rest in Peace throat slash].

So those tidbits don't necessarily mean that Taker is gonna face Cena next year at WM 29.
