Any Suggestions for An Appropriate Cardio Routine

Postby BoogerRedsGirl » Wed Jun 03, 2009 2:43 pm

I am pretty sure that we have some exercise buffs on this board, so here goes: As the title of my post suggests, I am seeking some advice on an appropriate cardio routine. I am not a gym rat by any stretch of the imagination but I've recently been bitten by the omnipotent health bug and I am currently trying to lose about 8 to 10 pounds.

Thus far, I am following a makeshift routine of being on the treadmill for about 30 minutes a day followed by brisk walking on a local school track for about 45 minutes on weekends. I also want to know about some meals that can make one full without having the need to snack in between. I find that, for breakfast for example, I have the desire to eat about one hour after the fact. Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :smt001

When starting a new cardio program, let's assume your diet is in total order, as both go hand in hand. I would start with 3, 30 minute sessions a week. Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays. That should be sufficient to start. I think you'd be able to lose that small amount of weight in 3 weeks time. Your aim should be to lose 3 lbs a week. After you lose that, stick with it for maintenance. As for meals, you should space about four small meals a day. I would say space them about three hours apart. Eat protein rich foods such as chicken tenderloin, vegetables, and small amounts of rice. you need a small amount of carbs to burn for energy. Just stick to the basics with regards to the diet. Don't overdo the cardio.

Major Post Bump :)

It has been awhile since this post was produced. Since then, I have increased my cardio workouts (20-25 minutes on the treadmill at speeds ranging from 6.5 to 7.0). In addition, I have lost nearly 30 pounds! Still have some fat in the abdomen that I'd like to rid myself of.

I was recently introduced to a program known as CrossFit. I looked into some videos on it on YouTube and was instantly impressed. Thankfully, my unit has begun incorporating it into our fitness program. And I couldn't be happier. Anyone here dabbled with CrossFit? And if so, what were your experiences with the program?
