Virtual Worlds

Postby Dark_Lady_18 » Thu Nov 05, 2009 9:32 pm

I'm starting this thread up to see what virtual worlds people are involved in, for example online games like Adventure Quest, pc games like World of WArcraft, and virtual worlds such as IMVU and Second Life. Having been on both Second Life (My avatar on there you can see in my avatar here) and IMVU (for a little while), my preference is Second Life. I find it's a lot more interactive, you can do more like walk about and do more or less anything within reason, for example being a mermaid, vampire, werewolf, fairy etc, plus it has the added bonus of voice chat, so you can hear what they sound like. Also there's the potential to earn real life money on there. I used to play Adventure Quest, but i've lost interest in it, and would only go back unless i'm really bored. I'm a big fan of Vampire The Masquerade:Bloodlines, the story is really involving and there's a lot of interesting characters in there. Could call this a gamers' thread if you want, but this is basically about being another person in another world. What's your favourites?

The closest I got to a game of this type was Second Life a couple of years ago. I got in a car, drove along the road and then all of a sudden my car fell through the floor. I quit the game, restarted and the same thing happened! I haven't played since. LOL.

I have to say I've never been a fan of this genre. I'm more of a FPS guy. Which reminds me...Call of Duty MW2 in 4 Days!!!! OMFG!!! :smt003

I'll leave now. :smt015

Dan, have you played Borderlands yet? There's 10,000 guns. If MW2 is anything like the first one I'll enjoy it but feel like it should have been 10-20 hours longer to actually be a game.

I despise MMOs. When it comes to a "virtual" world, I'd far rather just straight-up play D&D.

I've not even heard of Borderlands, I'll check it out. I have to confess Veritas, I'm a lousy gamer. The only game I have owned for the last year is COD WoW. Once COD MW2 comes out I'll be playing that until the next one arrives.

Personally I'd rather the campaign be as short as possible so I can get it out the way quicker and focus on what I buy the game for - the multiplayer.

To me, that's foolish. If they want to make a game that's multiplayer experience, make CoD:MP or something. Don't make people struggle through a game for no reason. Borderlands is a very long campaign that is also multiplayer. I'd love to see a game like that but CoD style. To me, the multiplayer is just...full of the same idiots who used to piss me off in CS.

I've stayed away from many MMO's for the simple reasons of no time to dedicate to 'leveling' whatever avatar I create and no interest in them. The only thing I do play that's like a virtual world, is Monster Hunter, and that game is a lot of fun. Running around killing giant dragons and junk.

Capcom does have an MMO type Monster Hunter but is Japan Only I guess, so I probably will never get my hands on it. But I'm looking forward to the new one coming for the Wii soon.

I also played Roller Coaster Tycoon a lot when I was a kid, I remember picking up all the little people who were sick and placing them on a little man made island in the middle of a lake and leaving them there. I was a mean God. :smt008

Actually there is 10,000 guns but about halfway through the game all the new guns just become upgraded version of the first few thousand guns. but i've never tried any virtual world games accept for WoW but i dont think that counts

You're in the minority Veritas, most people buy CoD for the multiplayer. Sure you get your fair share of idiots, but most of the time you can a have decent game with a decent team, especially if you have a group of mates who also have the game.

I may be, but every time I fired it up MP I just got frustrated and left. I hear the XBox community is OK, but I refuse to play FPS on console.

On most MP games you don't even need to listen to them, I never use the mic or headphones unless I'm on with people I know. So all the whiny ass 13 year olds fall on deaf ears with me.

You're a PC man then? I was a big fan of Half Life 2 on the PC - probably the best FPS shooter out there along with CoD.

I just think that controllers are clumsy as hell for FPS games. Yes, I am a PC gamer...but I love classic consoles.

Close. I'm 15. :smt003

I have a deep voice, so I can't really fall into the category of "whiny ass 13 year olds with extremely high voices".
