Undertaker Retiring!?

General talk about the Undertaker.

Undertaker Retiring!?

Postby phenomtaker13 » Wed Feb 23, 2005 4:16 pm

- "As the reports lately confirm, it is being said that WWE is scraping its plans to go with Undertaker & Kane Vs. Heidenreich & Snitsky for Undertaker Vs. Randy Orton. This seems to be the better path to go as Orton seems to have no other big plans, and a high profile match-up could give Orton the momentum he needs. Many backstage are saying that Orton will defeat the Dead Man after turning heel in the match. On a side note, Undertaker is expected to retire from WWE competition by this summer. "

okay guys i know this is being discussed in the wrestlmania 21 thread, but im here to talk about the last line that says taker is excpected to retire by this summer. Do you think this is true? I really hope not, but it could very well happen, especially if take loses at wrestlemania 21. But if this is true, it will be a very sad summer this year :smt009

i was actually thinking about taker retiring this morning (not that i want it to happen) i was thinking how could the writers come up with a storyline for him to retire, seeing as he can't 'die' ad he is the deadman and has proved many a time that he can come back from the dead (even when he didn't use his dead man gimmick) and they can't just let him drop out from the wrestling scene without any storyline, he should go out in a blaze of glory.

I seriously hope this isn't true. Doesn't Taker's contract with WWE run till 2007 though? On the topic of his contract, if anyone knows, does the contract state he has to stay with WWE untill 2007, or can he leave at any time? I really hope the WWE arn't stupid enough to let Orton win, I'm sure Taker will not be happy with that.

I'm pretty sure that if Taker did lose to Orton at WM, he wouldn't retire. I mean i doubt Mark would let that happen to the character (and since Vince loves the old style Taker personal so much, i'd doubt he would either)

It sounds to me very implausable that they would bring back the old style of Undertaker for just over a year from WMXX for him to retire.

There have been talks about him retiring since 1999. It's nothing really new. I don't think he's going retire going out like that, anyways.

Yeah I read that at wrestlingexposed.com. I am not going to take it as accurate. I KNEW when I saw that someone was going to post about it. It was like OH GREAT here we go with the retirement crap again. I personally don't see why he would retire but at the same time he does have injuries that might be getting to him. HOWEVER, he is in the greatest shape ever I doubt he's going to retire that early. I also don't think that he will lose at WM21. If he does I'M GOING TO BE MAJORLY P*SSED. I guess we'll see but like Deejayahn said there have been rumors of his retirement since 1999. Later!

Contract is due to run out in May 2005. What happen up until and after that point is anyones guess.

Though He wouldn't be around. I will still be alive on this earth. What a Ride this has been. Starting in October 1998. I didn't think I would still be here this long. But I am.
So we light candles for the Deadman keep him in our thoughts. I can imagine that he has got his mind made up by now what he wants to do.

There are a couple of conflicting reports on when Calaway's contract with WWE expires. For example, AngelofLight's source obviously said it expires in May 2005, however, many I've read say that it expires in 2007. Whatever the expiry date, Mark Calaway, considering how loyal and faithful he has been to the company over the last nearly 15 years would probably be able to leave at any time as long as he'd given Vince a bit of notice and explanation as to why he felt his time as the Undertaker had come to an end.

Like deejayahn said, to be honest, I don't think there are any major concerns to have over this retirement rumour, because they've been floating around on-and-off for about the last 6 years and they've not come true, especially on Internet pro wrestling websites and the dirt sheets. However, I sure as hell don't know everything about the Undertaker or WWE and I certainly don't have any hot exclusive inside information so my opinion isn't totally conclusive.

Personally, and yes I could be wrong just like everyone else could be here, I think that this retirement rumour has just been sparked off by the fact that 2005 marks the Undertaker's 15th year in WWE and the idea that the possibility of Undertaker losing his undefeated WrestleMania streak to Randy Orton this must imply that this will be the Undertaker's last WrestleMania. This can't be proven unless someone here actually knows for sure. All we can do is summise at the moment. My personal thoughts are that the Undertaker won't retire this year, but maybe my opinion is being subconciously controlled by my hopes.

Taker retiring isn't exactly what I truely want to think about, but I have to express how I feel about it. I know one day, yeah, the time will come that Taker will retire maybe make quick appearances every like few years or never come back again. But I also know that he wouldn't leave after he was just beat at wrestlemania. The Undertaker character and the man himself, I don't think would do that. He wouldn't just be leaving after wrestlemania, he'd be leaving after getting beat at Wrestlemania than none other than the "legend killer" himself. Randy Keith Orton. Now let's backtrack a bit shall we? Randy has been in this business for how long? He made his debut in 2000 and how long has Taker been in this business 14 years? Would Taker really go down like that? I'm not thinking so, plus wrestlemania is only 40 days away and Randy hasn't really showed any signs of turning heel and going against the Undertaker, and Taker himself is really focused on Luther Reigns at the moment. But as stated previously, only time, and Taker himself will tell :smt006

Randy Keith Orton. Now let's backtrack a bit shall we? Randy has been in this business for how long? He made his debut in 2000

I just wanted to correct you there. Orton made his debut on WWE television in 2002. He hasn't been around that long. As far as how long he's been wrestling that I don't know. I do know though that he made his debut in the WWE in 2002 and not 2000. Later!

With the rumours of Taker retiring I don't know about that due to the fact that there have been rumours of retiring since 1999 as deejayahn said so I'm not sure about that and I thiink we shouldn't worry about right, we should worry about it when it happens, it something I don't like to think about but someday yeah it will happen and I fro one just want to enjoy watching him wrestle in the ring and worry when he' gonna hang up the boots for good, lets just enjoy takers last years of wrestling instead of debating his retirement, well thats opinion.

Well, sorry to stay off topic a bit as GirlyTakerViper put it but both of you are kind of correct and incorret. weirdoscherich is right, Orton's WWE debut was in April 2002, however, GirlyTakerViper is right that his break into the wrestling business began in 2000 when he debuted in OVW in June 2000. However, GirlyTakerViper, whilst Undertaker's career started in November 1990 in WWE, he's been in the wrestling business much longer than 14 years, about 20 years in fact, I think it was in 1985 that Calaway wrestled his first professional match in World Class Championship Wrestling at the Dallas Sportatorium as "Texas Red".

Hope that clears up any confusion.

I don't think undertaker will retire if Randy Orton beats him. That would be like he was saying 'I'm not playing anymore 'cos you beat me!' Also, I don't think Orton will win at WM...so, there! lol :smt020

Taker isn't retiring. at least not now anyway. I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself there. Besides Taker himself would let everyone know if he'd be retiring and Wrestlemania 21 is not gonna be his last match. Taker still has a few good years left in him. I reckon it will surely be a sad day when The Deadman decides to hang up the old coat and hat but it won't be after WM21. I hope that when Taker does retire that Dan & the mods will keep this site up as a tribute to The Phenom :smt006. There's no doubt in my mind Taker will indeed be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame one day along with Shawn Michaels.

Let's see they've had him retiring since 2000 so nothing new there.I don't see Taker going out with a lose at Wrestlemania if he were to lose I can see it happening against Orton but somehow I don't see it happening at WM21.

I discussed this in the wrestlemania 21 thread but if he does loose at wrestlemania it wouldn't be the end of the world. it's the end of his streak but a flawless streak. I've also heard about his possible retirement :smt015 . I remember reading an article in 2000 or 2001, that he stated he would be wrestling less and possibly be retiring within the next five or six years. So if that's true he should be retiring this year or next year. it will be a depressing :smt021 day for myself when it happens but i would be greatfull for all the years of entertainment he has given us. :smt004

I have to say although it's still a rumour, as each year goes by the chance of retirement obviously increases for 'Taker, added to the fact his shcedule has been reduced and he's reverted back to the Deadman character. All signalling his career is winding down, but retirement who knows? We hear this every WrestleMania now, but I have to say this year I'm preparing myself for it.

As for the site remaining open, of course it will. I doubt 'Taker will remain in the public eye, he's not that kind of person but it'll always stay open ready to report any news Callaway related. I have 20 years worth of history to add to the site also, in the form of videos, images and text. We're not going anywhere, the spirit of the Undertaker lives in in the souls of all Mankind, remember. :smt001
