SmackDown Results 10/23/09

WWE SmackDown: (Airing Friday)

- Batista & Mysterio vs. Jericho & Kane is the main event tonight.

- Chris Jericho starts things off. Bragging Rights hype. JTG interrupts, then Vickie Guerrero interrupts. JTG's better on the mic. Eric Escobar comes out, then Dolph Ziggler, then Drew McIntyre. Finally, Kane. Kane & Jericho run down their team for not being ready and set up a 4 on 5 tag match, because Shad is sick. Same stipulation as Raw's 5 on 5 match, where if a team member is pinned, the person who pinned him takes his place.

- 1st Match - Eric Escobar, JTG, Drew McIntyre & Dolph Ziggler vs. The Hart Dynasty, Finlay, Matt Hardy & R-Truth. Long match. Hardy pins JTG with a Twist of Fate after Finlay with a shillelagh hit. So, Matt is now on Team Smackdown.

- CM Punk, Scott Armstrong and Teddy Long are in the back talking about the screw job. Armstrong bails out, but runs into Vince McMahon.
- 2nd Match - John Morrison vs. Mike Knox. Morrison wins with Starship Pain. Morrison gives a short promo after the match.

- Jericho & Kane congratulate Hardy and company on replacing all 5 of the old Smackdown team.

- Mickie James, Michelle McCool, Mae Young and Beth Phoenix promo. Young slaps the fool out of McCool.

- Batista & Rey talk backstage.

- 3rd Match - Batista & Mysterio vs. Jericho & Kane. Pyrofest 2009. Batista pins Kane with a spear after Mysterio scarifies himself to Kane on a chokeslam.

- Vince McMahon talks up tonight's main event. Armstrong caved in. Taker-McMahon WrestleMania 26 foreshadowing here. Vince blackmails Armstrong by saying Bullet Bob could go in Hall of Fame this year if he cooperates.

- 4th Match - Mickie James vs. Layla. Mickie wins with a spin kick. And let's just say she's gotten the message from being moved.

- Captain Lou package.

- Cole & King hype Bragging Rights.

- 5th Match - CM Punk vs. Undertaker - Submission Match for the World Heavyweight Title. Punk and company come out with a Straight Edge promo. Great simple stuff from Punk. Taker wins with Hell's Gate despite Punk's attempts at another screwjob. Punk tapped way too quickly.

- Taker plays to the crowd to send us home happy.

Seems like an Ok show but replacing the best thing in the main event for Bragging Rights, Drew McIntyre, is the wrong decision.

So they pulled Drew out of the tag match at Bragging Rights??? That ruins what I wanted as a finish for the show. I hope this weeks' show is better than last week. Last weeks' show had the energy of a sleeping puppy.

Press button "Drooling Fan Girl Mode ON": Oooooooo...he did his beard dark again!!!!!!!! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Press buttton "Drooling Fan Girl Mode OFF".

OK, I'm better now -just had to say that. Not a bad SD overall...Morrison was fun as always - ya know, he's really growing on me. Especially in the absence of Jeff Hardy, he's the major high flyer in the co. now (though Bourne's getting there). StarshipPain is just a sweeta$$ move and Morrison has a good sense of his character & a lot of charisma. And regardless of Batista's crippled move set, I have to say, in terms of bringing out the personality in his character, he's continued the growth he began the year he worked w/ Taker. The Mickie-Layla match was nice; I cna't wait to see Mickie against someone w/ more experience than Layla. The 4-on-5 match was good. Not stellar, but good. Jericho rocks heel mode as always. Still wish they'd give Kane a bit more emphasis; he makes an interesting and unexpected foil for Jericho.

Quite frankly, I'm glad they didn't have Batista pin Chris. It's time for SD to have a dominant heel, similar to how Raw has Orton. SD had that particular heel in Edge, but he's gone now. Someone needs to take his place, and I don't think there can be any doubt that such a person must be Chris Jericho.

Jericho should be the dominant heel on Smackdown. The problem with that is, he's jobbed to Mysterio multiple times, and he gets portrayed as a weak link in Team Jeriishow. The guy cuts the best promos in the industry, yet he's jobbing to Rey? Give me a break.

I only saw the main event from the show, and I thought it was an average match. They need to start cutting the hoopla out of the matches. It gets kind of old when they set up a one on one match, then they add two other guys to the story. I'd like to see Punk/Taker one on one, without overtones, and Punk being portrayed as such a scared, scheming, fool. Why not portray Punk to be a bit more of a sadistic, fearless heel. Also, if they're setting up a McMahon/Taker bout at Mania, I won't buy the event then.

Watching the end of the WWE site, I don't think Punk tapped too quickly. Maybe 1 second or around thereabouts too soon, but not that much. I think he lasted longer than he had at Breaking Point.

You're right - Punk didn't tap too quickly..but he always taps like he's in panic mode. I wish he'd tap as if he's passing out...it would make more sense. I know its a minor bone to pick, but.. :-)
BS & CJ need to be split up at this point. Th association isn't doing either guy any good. (Aside: I still think BS should be a face! He's a good comedian! DA tells the Great Void...again). I'd sort of like to see Punk & Jericho unite. They have the same pioous preaching capability and they both bend the rules when necessary and they are both good enough in the ring to make a heel-who-can-walk-his-talk position utterly believable.
Laslty, WWE(Un)Creative needs to find some other storyline for Taker than the Taker-getting-screwed-by-somebody-yet-again scenario. Whether it's Edge, Vickie, Punk& Co., McMahon, it doesn't matter; it's getting old. If they're going to come up w/ the the same thing all the time, ditch storyline and just let the guy wrestle. He can tell a better story in the ring than they can come w/ on paper. Ergl.
Side note: if Batty win the WHC tonight, I'm gonna be so miffed!!!!!
Cheers ya'll!
