Wrestlescoops recently published highlights of an Interview Edge conducted with Sam Roberts on the Sam Roberts Show. Here is a small cut up of the highlights of the interview that’s posted on Wrestlescoops:
On when he realized he was a legitimate main event player:
“I think it was (during the John Cena feud) when they said, ‘Let’s test the waters here and see what he’s got.’ I think I knocked it out of the park. So, it was like, ‘OK. We can depend on him now. We can depend on him to lead Smackdown! while John leads Raw.’ That’s truly what it felt like.
On his match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 24:
“That was my personal favorite WrestleMania moment. ‘We’re closing out WrestleMania, I’m going out against Undertaker.’ … For me, it was like an affirmation of proving it throughout the years. ‘There’s no doubt now. I’m in here against him and he thinks I belong. The guy who owns the company thinks I belong.’
“It took a lot of proving, a lot of diving through flaming tables with tacks on my shoulders and all those things. That was a validation for me.”

I agree with Edge 100%. Personally, I felt this match for the World Title should have taken place before WM24. Loved his WM22 match with Foley. But if it were up to me, I’d have Taker vs Edge for the WHC at WM22 over Taker/Henry or even WM18 cause it was in Edge’s hometown. Sure, Edge would have lost. But I think he’d prefer to go in as Champion & lose to a pro like Taker to continue a year long build rather than beat a talented veteran in Booker T in a match that had very little to build to it at all. I mean it was a good match. But the feud started over a Japanese commercial lol. Plus knowing his match with Taker was his personal favorite WM moment, what would have made the moment better was if it was in Toronto before his 2003 neck surgery which eventually shortened his career. Of course, WM17 would have been another great option. But I wouldn’t support that one cause WM17 already had Taker vs HHH & TLC II as well as Rock/Austin.

So, let me get this right, you know taker or your in with the company or something right? I mean, thats the only way you would know that for sure, right? I don’t get why fans cant just be fans and enjoy… Undertaker is an amazing athlete… He moved better at this past mania then ever before… So, when he comes back, he comes back… Leave the man alone… He has proved himself to the wwe and he has given us, his fans everything we could ever hope for… I am a true fan of his and I hope he never retires but we all are human and thats just fact. So as fans we should just sit back, remember the awesome times and wait for the awesome times to come.

Damn, I thought Edge would probably give a hint as to when Undertaker will return :(
You expected a guy who no longer is in WWE to know or have an idea as to when Taker will return when probably no one in the company knows? Expect him back in time for WM29. If he returns earlier and that is a very big IF, I will be pleasantly shocked.
SummerSlam would be good, in my opinion though :) Judging by his performance at WM 28, I think SummerSlam would be a good time to return. Maybe even getting involved in the HHH-Lesnar feud. Probably not going to happen but it would be awesome if it did, lol

“He is the yard stick to which everyone, past, present and future is measured.” as Jim Ross put it. Not by choice but by example of his own laurels. To work so hard that when someone else works with you it validates them, is validation right back. Both men have worked very hard and have the respect of their peers because of it. Edge has come a long from The Brood and The Ministry of Darkness.

He has. His Rated R days were his very best as far as a heel goes. But I will always cherish his Brood & pre-Brood as in Tortured Soul days. Not to mention his comedic days with Christian. I love how he used to come & exit through the crowd before The Brood formed.
Taker on the other hand….during his hiatus, I always re-watch his career so I have something to see while waiting for his return. Each time I see him whether it;s something old or new, I appreciate and respect him that much more than I used to which is unlimited and forever as it already is.
If you think about it, the Taker-Edge feud didn’t really need to happen. By then, both men’s careers have already been validated & their HOF inductions have already been established as it was just a matter of when, not if they will go into the Hall. By 2008, they could have retired as they had nothing left to prove anymore. However, it did happen and it made their careers all the more better. One of the best feuds in their history, WWE history and perhaps even the history of the industry. I think today’s generation could learn from watching this feud.
You agree that this will make an excellent Rivalry DVD? A lot of Taker feuds would IMO. Edge, HBK, HHH, Kane, Bret Hart, Mankind, Hogan, Warrior, Vince, Jake Roberts, Austin, Batista, and Lesnar after he repays Taker the favor he’s owed him since 2003. Of course, it’d be nothing without Taker to appear and comment so we’ll have to wait till he’s left a void that no one will ever be able to fill.

It’s really cool to here Edge saing that. His match against Taker at Mania 24, like I said it before, is my personal favorite match off al time, Edge indeed became a legitimate main eventer when he was chosen to be the top heel on Smackdown, but Taker was the one that put him over and made him look even better, leading him to legedary status. Like he said, his match with Taker was a validation for his status as a true legend.
