The Deadman
Welcome to PhenomForever.com, the #1 Wrestling fansite on the net dedicated to the one and only Undertaker! The Undertaker made his debut with the WWE in 1990 as the mystery partner for Ted DiBiase at the annual Pay Per View, Survivor Series. Fans around the world were immediately captivated by this strange looking man in a tenchcoat and so his legacy began. Two decades later The Undertaker is the most feared and respected wrestler not just in the WWE, but in the entire wrestling community. From the Lord of Darkness to the American Badass roaring in on his motorcycle, he's entertained crowds around the world. Now as his Deadman persona he continues to dominate on Smackdown. There is truly only one Phenom!

A Look At The Undertaker’s Wrestlemania Undefeated Streak
Since The Undertaker´s debut back in the 1990 Survivor Series, the WWE has never been the same. The attitude era gave rise to the Badass gimmick, but it was always in the shadow of the real Deadman persona. For over two decades The Undertaker has amazed the WWE fans, if not by his wrestling moves, by his iconic character.
This brings me to the main point of the article THE STREAK. As you all know right now ‘Taker is 17-0 at WrestleMania. As you can see the streak is not a joke at all, you can clearly say that 11 of the opponents ‘Taker has defeated are legends or really important main event wrestlers.
The fans just can’t seem to get enough of the Deadman’s character. For almost two decades they have cheered for him even if he was a heel. The heat produced by this superstar is without a doubt impressive. The streak is more than a number right now, it has become a vital part of WrestleMania, they are somehow united. It’s more than a number it’s a guarantee that you will get the best match of the event every year.
‘Taker has made better superstars out of Batista, Edge, Shawn Michaels, Sycho Sid, Diesel, Triple H, Randy Orton, and even Ric Flair, after they’re WrestleMania matches. With the Undertaker you are not getting just another superstar, you are getting the best wrestler, the best teacher and the best entertainer at WrestleMania.
His matches were not all five-star quality at WrestleMania, but it’s not his fault that his character was used to face other large wrestlers, and most of them couldn’t wrestle well to begin with. The Undertaker himself can wrestle in the ring, and has proven it not just at WrestleMania but at other major PPVs in the WWE. The main reason people make a big deal about it is because the WWE makes a big deal about it, not to mention The Streak primarily is at WWE’s biggest PPV. For short, it’s Vince’s fault.
Of course after 17 years of wrestling his body is hurting, but this is no reason at all for not doing it better every day, just take you’re WrestleMania videos and watch how his level has reached the unreachable, specially the last three WrestleMania’s. The streak will never die, cause it will remain as a bar where each new talent will aspire to touch, not reach just touch. The Undertaker has cemented his legacy by becoming really unbeatable.
But do all of his victims deserved to be part of The Streak?
Let’s see:
WrestleMania VII = The match against Jimmy Snuka, despite its length, was the match that started it all. Without Jimmy Snuka as the very first victim, we would never have The Streak in the first place. And not to mention Snuka is a legend, so he’s worthy enough.
Wrestlemania VIII = Jake Roberts was the finest heel by that time, and Taker’s feud with him also signaled ‘Taker’s very first face turn. Hate him, but Roberts is a legend and therefore, worthy enough to be included.
Wrestlemania XII = Diesel, also known as Kevin Nash, is a lowlife piece of humanity. He’s a leech and not a good wrestler. But my oh my, what a match ‘Taker carried him through. A rapid paced entertaining classic which is definitely one of the most underrated WrestleMania match ever. And of course Diesel’s got the name, so he’s worthy enough.
Wrestlemania XIII = Sid vs. Undertaker at WrestleMania 13 was not a bad match either, and the only negative about it was Bret Hart’s interference in the beginning before he was thrown out. Sid’s got the name and is worthy enough.
Wrestlemania XIV = For almost a year, Paul Bearer had been threatening The Undertaker with a secret. It turned out that Kane and The Undertaker were half brothers (Paul Bearer was Kane’s dad) and The Undertaker had accidentally killed his parents by starting a fire. Kane was severely burned and had to wear a mask and was unable to talk. It appeared that the brother’s had made peace with each other until Kane burned The Undertaker alive in the same coffin that derailed Shawn Michael’s career. The long-anticipated meeting was set down for March 29th at WrestleMania 14 in Boston. It was a very good match considering the size and styles of the two wrestlers, which ended in a win to the face. But it was the way in which Kane was defeated which actually gave The Big Red Machine, as he was then dubbed, the impetus for further success. It needed a third piledriver to get the three count. To add to Kane’s persona, he quickly recovered after the match and gave his brother a Tombstone of his own, on a chair. A legendary match, and Kane is definitely a worthy name.
Wrestlemania X-7 = Everything about this match was good. The first meeting between these two main event caliber stars. Triple H stated that he had defeated all the big names in WWE, but Undertaker had something to say about that. They went all through the crowd and hit each other with a ton of weapons while the referee was down. Triple H makes you think that he is clearly on the road to ending ‘Taker’s streak, but it all comes to a head when Undertaker hits the Last Ride for the win and to extend his WrestleMania win streak. An unquestioned instant classic. Triple H is one of the biggest names on the list, and undeniably worthy.
Wrestlemania X-8 = The Undertaker and Ric Flair had a wild brawl. These two men had matches back in 1993 but back then The Undertaker had a different style. This match was awesome. I also found Jerry Lawler’s announcing quite amusing during this match. Jerry is so biased and I love it. He began to chuckle when the Undertaker put a chokehold on Flair and throughout the event Ross and Lawler debated various things. It reminded me of the chemistry between the late Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby “The Brain” Heenan or Jesse Ventura and Vince McMahon. The classic ended after a Tombstone Piledriver and the interference of another Horsemen, Arn Anderson. The 16 Time World Champion is the biggest name on the list, no doubt about it.
Wrestlemania XX = This was nowhere near as good as the classic match they had at Wrestlemania XIV. Anyway, ‘Taker’s entrance was spine tingling. Perhaps the best entrance at a WrestleMania ever. It seemed to last longer than the match itself. ‘Taker won to stay undefeated at Mania, by Tombstoning Kane (he kicked out of two tombstones in the match at XIV). Nonetheless, this was the beginning of ‘Taker’s most long lasting gimmick ever, The Legendary Deadman gimmick.
WrestleMania XXI = The match that catapulted the credibility of The Streak to the sky. Something even legends like Diesel, Sid, Kane, Triple H, and Ric Flair couldn’t have ever done. Most people remember WrestleMania 21 for Michaels/Angle and the first Money in the Bank. However, when I think of WrestleMania 21, one match always seem to stick out more… and that is The Undertaker vs. Randy Orton. Some years we know that there is no way Undertaker’s streak is going to end (e.g. Mark Henry). However, there are then years where it could very well end… and people knew there was a damn good possibility that Orton was going to walk out the winner, and when Undertaker was giving Orton a Chokeslam and Orton delivered a sick RKO counter, all of us watching it live seriously thought it was over. Well, in the end, The Undertaker walked out the victor, but this classic match began to launch Orton’s career from “Upper mid-carder being shoved down our throats” to “Certified Main Eventer.” Orton is definitely worthy enough, and to date, this match is regarded as Orton’s Best WrestleMania match.
Wrestlemania XXIII = This was an extremely good match, one of the best of the year. It was very exciting and both men performed very well. Batista speared Undertaker as soon as the bell rang, and the match got underway. For the first half, the two mostly battled out of the ring, with Undertaker occasionally running in and out of the ring quickly to break and restart the 10 count. It featured many high spots, including Undertaker hitting the Chokeslam and Last Ride and still failing to win the match, and Batista hitting a running Powerslam through the announcer’s table. Late in the match Batista hits a Spinebuster and Batista Bomb but Undertaker somehow kicks out. More back and forth action follows, Undertaker wins the match, the championship, and a 15-0 WrestleMania record after a Tombstone Piledriver. Classic battle. Batista is definitely worthy enough, no question about it. And this is also regarded as Batista’s best match ever in WWE.
WrestleMania XXIV = It surpassed my expectations and was extremely intense. The first half of the match featured many counters and reversals, including Edge reversing Old School, the Chokeslam, and the Last Ride. The match picked up the pace big time later on. Undertaker hits the Chokeslam and Last Ride, but fails to get the pin on both. Undertaker later attempted a big boot but hit the referee instead, this gave Edge the opportunity to nail Undertaker with a video camera. Undertaker gave Edge a Tombstone Piledriver afterwards, but the ref was still out so as Undertaker pinned Edge, a new ref had to sprint down the entrance ramp to make the count. Unfortunately, this gave Edge enough time to kick out. Edge later hits a spear, but Undertaker suddenly locks Edge in his new submission hold immediately after. After hanging in for a while, Edge submits and The Undertaker wins the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania for the second straight year. A WrestleMania classic and amazing match. Edge is a surefire Hall of Famer, he is worthy to be included on the list.
Wrestlemania XXV = When I saw Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania XXI, I thought that you would never see a better match where no weapons are used. Not just getting caught up in the hype because WrestleMania was only months ago, but this just might be the best WrestleMania match that I have ever seen. As far as storyline goes it was built up very well. As far as in ring action goes, it was a privilege to watch. As far as ring psychology goes, it was a master class. As far as crowd reaction goes, that much crowd reaction hasn’t been seen since Hogan vs The Rock. I truly believe that while we thought we may knew who is going to emerge victorious, it’s more about how the winner gets there, that matters the most. The match between the Undertaker and “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels, was an example of how great a match could be, and no one could complain about how the match ended. The Undertaker attempted to hit Shawn with his fists to open the match, but HBK kept evading the blows.
Each competitor executed their finishing move a few times, but each one kicked out of the other’s signature move. Frustration was evident on the faces of both these superstars, especially the Undertaker’s. At one point during the match, Shawn was on the outside of the ring. Undertaker was about to dive, but HBK pulled a camera man in front of him, and Undertaker accidentally jumped on the cameraman. I honestly thought for 5 seconds that The Undertaker had broken his neck and died live at WrestleMania.
The end came when Shawn was climbing the ropes to do a moonsault. The Undertaker caught him in mid-air, and nailed his “Tombstone” reverse piledriver for the pinfall victory. The match lasted a little over half-an-hour and was one of the greatest matches I have ever seen. The fans were into it – half were chanting “Let’s go Taker”, while the other half were chanting “HBK”. At one point, the fans were also chanting “This is awesome.” The Undertaker is now 17-0 at WrestleMania. What a record! In my opinion, this was his best match ever at WrestleMania. Shawn Michaels brought out the best in his opponent, and showed why he is also known as “Mr. WrestleMania.”. Nothing else on the show came close to being this good. JR claimed it was like a living heaven on earth after seeing this match. Fans will be talking about this match for decades like some of the other great WrestleMania matches. An instant classic which the crowd gave a standing ovation to both legends after the match. And Mr. Wrestlemania is just as worthy as Ric Flair to be included on the list.
There, those matches I listed above are definitely ‘Taker’s notable WrestleMania matches. So, my top five Undertaker matches that should have never happened at WrestleMania are:
5. Undertaker vs Big Show & A-Train (WrestleMania XIX)
OK, let me refresh everyones memory. VINCE got HOGAN, ANGLE got LESNAR, ROCK got AUSTIN, HBK got JERICHO, and TRIPLE H got BOOKER T. But whom did The Undertaker get? TWO OF THE MOST RETARDED MONKEYS IN EXISTENCE OF WWE’S ROSTER AT THAT TIME!!! I couldn’t believe this!!! OK, the match wasn’t as bad as people make it out to be. It was rapid paced with lots of back and forth action, but in the name of everything that is decent, why those two?! Why, Vince?! Why?! Show is as boring as ever and ‘Train didn’t even have a lengthy career in WWE!!!!! Vince should have put Eddie and Benoit as tag teams champion after ‘Taker defeated Show at No Way Out!!! That way, ‘Taker could turn heel and reform The Unholy Alliance with Show again instead of having a match with someone who should have shaved his back!!! OMG, The Unholy Alliance vs. Eddie & Benoit would have made a waaaaaaaaay better match and would have put waaaaaaaaaaaay bigger names on the victim list. Too bad, for Vince Taker vs stupid giants is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more preferable than ‘Taker vs greats!!!
4. Undertaker vs King Kong Bundy (WrestleMania XI)
OK, Bundy is a legend. He knew how to work as a big man and he was (perhaps) the worthiest name out of this top 5 list. But why pit the aging Bundy against ‘Taker? If ‘Taker dominated the whole match and the match was also a short match, then what was the point of stealing the urn (which was supposed to be ‘Taker’s source of power)? A poorly booked match. Vince should have involved Bret Hart in the storyline and have him faced ‘Taker at WM XI. That way, we could have another classic. Too bad, for Vince Taker vs lanky giants is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more preferable than Taker vs greats!!!
3. Undertaker vs Mark Henry (WrestleMania XXII)
When this match was first announced, I thought WWE were joking. Too bad, they weren’t. I was shocked when Vince said that he believes ‘Taker could put on a legendary match with Henry!!! The match flopped big time!!! Vince could have delayed Henry’s push and gave the title to Orton so ‘Taker could face Angle at WM XXII!!! Or he could have put ‘Taker in a program against Benoit from the start of the year!!! But, no!!! No, no, no!!! For Vince, ‘Taker vs dull giants is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more preferable than ‘Taker vs greats!!! There is only one good thing from this match, after 14 LONG YEARS, Vince finally realized that Taker vs boring giant mid-carders at WrestleMania should have never occurred in the first place. That’s why ‘Taker has had main eventers in his last 3 WrestleManias (although to be frank, 14 years feels a bit too late don’t you think?). And we also learned one other thing from this match, that no matter what, Vince’s love for giants will never cease to exist as long as his heart still beats. Truly a waste of another potential classic match against Angle or Benoit.
2. Undertaker vs Big Boss Man (WrestleMania XV)
WWE’s roster was a bit lacking at the time. With how everything played out, the only opponent even close to suitable for The Undertaker was The Big Boss Man. They would collide in Hell in a Cell. Before the event, many people knew that The Big Boss Man was in a series of watchable cage matches with Hulk Hogan in the 1980s. The Undertaker had been one half of two of the greatest matches ever in the first two major Hell in a Cell matches. However, this match was suicide inducing for people watching it. It sucked so hard that it is the only Hell in a Cell match in its history that wasn’t included on the very awesome Anthology DVD set. Vince should have put Austin against Taker!! Their feud went on to be the highlight of 1999!! This is also the biggest reason why ‘Taker vs Austin feud will never make it to anyone top 3 ‘Taker’s feud of all time, or maybe even top 5….they never had a match at WrestleMania….and sadly, they never will. Shame on you Vince!! For you, ‘Taker vs talentless giants is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more preferable than Taker vs greats!!!
1. Undertaker vs Giant Gonzales (Wrestlemania IX)
Unarguably, The Undertaker’s worst match in his long and illustrious career. Giant Gonzalez is easily one of the worst wrestlers in WWE history. In terms of skills, he makes The Great Khali look like Bret Hart in comparison. His moves consisted of a punch, a body slam, and the claw. His selling of moves consisted of the patent “Giant Gonzalez all purpose bug eye selling”. ABSOLUTE CRAP!! What was the WWF thinking bringing with such a horrible wrestler as Giant Gonzales? Vince should have given Hogan as ‘Taker’s opponent!! Surprisingly, Hogan never got a problem jobbing to The Undertaker (Survivor Series 1991 and Judgment Day 2002). Vince could have given ‘Taker a rub by defeating Hogan in Hogan’s last WrestleMania during his first tenure in WWE, but as I stated above, for Vince, ‘Taker vs worthless giants is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more preferable than ‘Taker vs greats!!!
That’s all for my fair share of opinion. I would like to hear your comments.
Thx for your attention (><)!!!

Well I would not totally agree that Taker is the best entertainer or has the guaranteed best match every year at WM. That would be a tie between him and HBK.
A lot of times Taker’s matches in other PPVs or even Smackdown turn out to be better than his Mania matches, e.g., his last man standing match against Khali on Smackdown was better than his casket match against Henry. Yeah Taker does not have the best match every year, but a lot of times its also due to opponents. When was HBK made to feud with Henry or Big SLow or Big V or Gonzales? Anyway, that’s a known fact so no point stretching it. All said and done, Taker is capable of giving very good matches and in my estimation he’s the best performer and he brings out the best in everybody – he is the only one who can stand in the ring with superstars of all sizes, skills and in all kinds of matches (including gimmick matches).
I personally don’t have any complaints with the names on the streak. Considering that Flair is often called as the greatest wrestler of all time, having his name there speaks a lot. Then you add Shawn Michaels, whom a lot of people consider the best in-ring performer of all time (although I think Kurt Angle and Bret Hart were better), and also add other big names like HHH, it is a fairly large list which encompasses wrestlers of different styles, skills, strengths, etc. I would love to see the names of Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Stone Cold, Rock, Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Goldberg etc get added to the streak but it will never happen. Agreed that Gonzales and Bundy couldn’t give as good matches as Bret Hart or Kurt Angle would have, but look at it this way – Taker will still be considered as most dominant, who was able to vanquish all types of opponents, even the bigger and heavier giants. Vince was always more crazy about Taker’s domination and character-presentation, that is why he kept putting him against big giants.

I clearly understand your point, but still…it feels bitter somehow we could got more but thanks to Vince F*cking McMahon we couldn’t. I will despise him for as long as I can for that.

If you like the Big SLow, that is your choice. If you know this website, you are free to express your opioion,as long as it does not have intent on offending the other loyal fans. This will upset many, including me. And F.Y.I., Taker’s title reign is very interesting. He’s had some of the, shall I say, biggest superstars go after the chaimpionship and WON. If that wasn’t spectacular, I don’t know what is.

I was suprised that Vince didn’t put Taker against Great Khali at Wrestlemania 23 because that would have fit Vince putting Taker against crappy giant wrestlers (A-Train, Gonzales, Henry, Show, Bundy) thank god that didn’t happen as Taker won the Rumble and went against Batista to win WHC. Kane had to suffer against him.

awesome blog, i agree with absolutely everything you wrote especially that taker vs hbk is the best wrestlemania match ever and the part about vince mcmahon’s unending love for big fat giants
vince is probably making hard, sweaty, greasy love to the big show right now

Mate,
I was held up with some work, today I am free.
First of all, excellent blog mate. Congratulations on posting your second blog.
Most of these WM matches were storyline matches and that has what made the deadman and his challengers famous.
Yes he did challenge Sid, Batista, and Edge for the title, but barring Sid, Batista and Edge matches were Epic only because of the long storylines. Not to mention WM 25 with Shawn Michaels. Taker advising Shawn “Sometimes, it’s hell trying to get to heaven” is where it all started. “My light will outshine your darkness” was Shawn’s reply. And the great match happened at WM 25.
As for Giant wrestlers Taker fought them in Giant vs Giant type of storylines and somehow it did not work because his opponents were too dumb.
In my view, the worst WM giant matches are:
1. Taker vs King Kong Bundy
2. Taker vs Giant Gonzales
In the first match, Bundy dominated Taker for most of the match and Taker just gave him a flying clothesline (which by no means is a pinning move) and finished him off. The match was also poorly choreographed because Taker hit Bundy a flying clothesline and immediately he covered Bundy in his trademark style — which is to join both of his opponent’s arm on their chest.
This made the whole thing look as though everything is pre-planned. Yes, pro-wrestling is pre-planned and booked, but this match looked a bit too blatant.
The second match is an embarrassment to Taker. Taker winning due to disqualification and beaten up towards the end. Well whenever Taker displays the list of opponents he has beaten in the Titantron, he can erase off Taker vs Giant Gonzales, because he embarassed and dominated him. Taker just won in that match, but lost everything.
In addition the above match was a huge anticlimax because Taker’s entrance for that match was awe inspiring. The match took place in an open air arena. Lot of them wondered how Taker is going to bring darkness when he makes his entrance. But he instead chose to ride a chariot. That was something I personally liked in him. That is something that continues to make me say that Taker is a creative guy himself.
But despite of all these the match was a huge let down. Taker just gave an old school, flying clothesline, and uppercuts. Perhaps had Taker got a roll-up pinfall victory or applying the chloroform on Giant’s face when the referee is not looking around and score a pinfall victory might have made the match look better.
And, I somehow feel that Taker and Sid should have had more mind games than they actually had. Both guys are unusual and dangerous. Just like a Taker/Kane mind game, these two guys could have had more mind games.
It could have added more spice to their phenomenal match at Wrestle Mania 97. Plus, Taker should have made a more intimidating entrance challenging Psyco Sid’s. Perhaps Taker could have come second. And apart from that confrontation on the night when Taker/Sid vs Mankind/Vader match happened, there wasn’t much.
I clearly understand your point, but still…it feels bitter somehow we could got more but thanks to Vince F*cking McMahon we couldn’t. I will despise him for as long as I can for that.
I will always respect Vince for creating the Undertaker character, for giving him the dominance and destruction which he achieved through his career, for giving him the Wrestlemania streak in return to his contributions and for giving him the respect he deserves.
Vince is an industry leader – he has an eye for talent like no one else has. Look at what WCW were doing to Mean Mark Callous and look at what Vince did to him in the first month of the Undertaker’s career. The Undertaker’s first month in the WWF was more notice-able than Mean Mark Callous’ entire career, and it suddenly became the greatest gimmick of all time. Look at how Vince also identified Stone Cold as the leader of the attitude era. Look at how Vince has brought himself into story-lines and got his own a** kicked because that is what the crowd wanted to see and that is what earnt him his money. My hats off to Vince!

way to go Mr. 0.. I’ve been reading all your posts as of late.. and i must say, you are a very great and intent poster.. all your points are so acceptable.. i agree with you.. i agree with Mayank as well..
Personally, Mr. 0, i think you could make a great wwe creative writer.. believe me.. stephnie sucks right now..
and, i believe, only Kane was the best giant that Taker has ever faced in His wrestling history..
and yeah.. i’d ve loved to see lesnar and goldberg in Taker’s powerplay WM victims’ list..
hogan, rock and austin in Taker’s popularity WM victims’ list..
and oh man oh [ i wish they were there so much ]!!!! bret hart, angle, benoit and eddie in Taker’s performance, style, greatness, calibre and ability WM victims’ list..

Thank you, and your reply is greatly appreciated. I think the match against Mark Henry was worst than the one against Bundy because the hype was bigger but the whole match we only saw Henry dominating Taker to the last minute.
Ah, I’m speechless. Way to go, Mayank. Couldn’t argue with every word you said. Although actually, it surprised me to know that you respect Vince (^^). Although I still dislike the fact that he put 6 different talentless giants against Taker instead of 6 different greats.
way to go Mr.
Amen to that. And thanks for the reply.

i always respect Vince for being the genius that he is.. though i may not like his tendencies to like the muscular physique in wrestlers more than their usefulness.. it’s solely why we are again witnessing batista being involved in feuds with Taker.. and the other thing which i have hated for quite a long time now, is Vince’s attitude towards his daughter and son-in-law.. though i don’t question HHH’s talent.. HHH is a great wrestler.. no denial.. but Vince does allow him to play a lot of politics regarding his storylines.. which might be unfair regarding what he has already achieved..
But truly, i think it’s time Vince looked into and shaped up the creative crew a bit.. and i emphasize on his removing good-for-nothing stephnie, whose head is just so damn full of c**p.. it’s solely due to her that Taker gets screwed most of the time.. [sorry for acting like a kid]..
But otherwise.. i have no complaint for Vince.. he is one hell of an amazing visionary regarding wrestling..
I thank him solely, for the creation of characters like Taker and Kane.. what amazing stories..!! me too: Hat’s off to you Vince..

please don’t insult any other respected posters over here.. you may not personally agree with somebody’s points of view.. but you can’t insult that person..
and i disagree with you too.. look at Mr. 0’s points and look into his love and passion for the wwe.. and for things related to Taker.. i’d rather congratulate him for his calibre rather than insult him, which is a very low act.. Mr. 0 is a great poster..
and tna???? i’d rather term them as copykats working out things done by wwe itself.. they, simply put, copy what wwe does or has done.. no offense..

Mate don’t worry about such troglodites, who cannot frame a single word on their own. If they don’t agree with Taker or WWE, first of all they have no business here.
To come out with a blog, or any other piece of writing I know what it takes. And you have certainly got what it takes. These parasites can insult it, but it only reflects their incapability.
And I can’t help saying that just like TNA, TNA fans also make money wining at the WWE. (By the way I hate TNA and have also written a blog criticizing them for mocking Taker through their match between Sting and AJ Styles at Bound for Glory 2009).
Apart from this, I just want to say “Merry Christmas” to you and all Taker fans out here in this forum too. Mark, despite your busy wrestling schedules if in case you check out this post, Merry Christmas to you too, and take care.

I think it was necessary to do the feuds with the giants to make Taker look strong and to sell his dead-man gimmick, that he cannot be hurt as he is already dead. Taker getting up after a sweet chin music would not have the same effect as Taker getting up after 3 or 4 slams from Yokozuna or Mabel – the latter would make him look more strong and dominant, and the audience would believe more that he is indeed dead and impervious to pain. Frankly speaking I don’t regret much in Taker’s career except that he was made to look weak in front of Austin and Rock way too much during the attitude era, and his loss to Brock Lesnar at HIAC (though it was a way of bringing back the dead-man, because his loss was one of the reasons why Kane chose to bury him, saying that Taker was not a monster anymore but he had weaknesses).

It was necessary to do the feuds with giants, but was it necessary to give him 6 different talentless giants in five different occasions at The Grandest Stage of Them All? If that doesn’t explain Vince’s unending blind love for giants, nothing does.
Well, the feuds will look significant only if they result in Mania matches because that is the stage where the stakes are high and where it matters the most. Taker was always more about story-telling and intense feuds more than anything else in his early career, so if you had to do matches with the Bret Harts of that generation, then you needed significant time to build the story too. That’s perhaps why it didn’t happen. It looked to me more like Taker’s job was to keep these giants in existence – tell me, which other “face” wrestler could they have feuded with? It had to be either Hogan or Taker. They couldn’t have feuded with Bret or Michaels as they couldn’t have lasted in the ring with them. After Hogan was gone, it was only Taker. Its only during the attitude era that Vince realized that the giants are useless ;-) and the only worthwhile giants in the WWE were Taker and Kane.
Folks – some of the comments on this page are too long because they contain earlier comments “quoted”. While quoting, please ensure that you keep only the part of the text you are replying to, rather than the whole long comment – so that the page size does not become too long.

Hm, I think it was after the big time failure against Mark Henry at Wrestlemania 22 that giants are useless. That’s why Taker got three main eventers in his last three Wrestlemania matches.
Mark Henry probably just wanted to be in the spotlight ;-) Taker did a favour to him by doing a match against him at Mania. And I think it was made a casket match to make it a little interesting – if it was a regular wrestling match, it would’ve sucked more. I think the WWE were not sure as to what to do with Taker in 2006, that is why they did those stupid rivalries with Henry and Khali (more to bring the latter 2 in the spotlight) and so they started 2007 as a fresh year planned for him very well with a Rumble win and a long title reign – but then the injuries caught up. What else will happen if they give him so many gimmick matches? Hopefully they have realized their mistake this time and that is why they gave him the title almost immediately after returning, rather than making him run around for it like he normally does. That’s what makes me feel he will hold it for longer.

I agree bout the last line, but we’ll have to wait n c.
I don’t see another reason why he was made to win the belt while he was still healing from injury, then he was allowed to retain the title by having a relaxed schedule and tag-team/ triple threat/ fatal four way matches. If they wanted him to lose the belt after that, why would they make him win it in the first place?

Does it matter? I’d prefer Taker having 6 title reigns with one long reign than have him win only 7 short reigns.
LOL, I somewhat agree with you.

Hey Clown! It’s Lord of Darkness.
That’s a good blog with good points of opinion but i have to say once again, Taker/Show+Train wasn’t all that bad. It was bad at the time, seeing as what could’ve happened.
If they had an Undertaker/Show match at Mania, if they had been billing Show as a top level wrestler like he CAN be if he tries, he can put on a Great match, but at the time he was fat and lazy now he’s lost some weight and can wrestle well, but i see your points now.
Mark Henry needed a push and Vince gave it too him.
It annoys me how people say Taker never pushes people, but a push isn’t necessarily a win.
Taker pushed all those giants at Mania by at least TRYING to make a good match, except those lazy faggots thought that Taker can carry an entire match with a 180kg fatass.
Nobody could do that.
There are lots of people he could’ve feuded with but Vince didn’t make it.
He probably thinks the likes of Rock/Austin and, sadly, Cena (idk) are too good for the list.
