And so it begins. This weeks Smackdown saw what I hope is the beginning of a lengthy and exciting feud between the Brothers of Destruction and ‘JeriShow’. I never thought I’d find myself thrilled that The Undertaker was working with The Big Show again, but someone in creative deserves a pay rise because this I like. I can honestly say I haven’t enjoyed wrestling quite so much in a long time, always helps when your favorite is doing something interesting. But when your ‘favoriteS’ are working together and feuding over pride and titles it’s a little like all the birthdays and Christmases came at once.

Smackdown started off this feud tonight by showing an awesome promo detailing the bond between Kane and The Undertaker and showing off how well they can work as a team as well as as opponents. I loved this promo, in an age when WWE promo’s seem to be getting a little too cheesy, this one held off and did the job. I loved it. Plus it set the stage for what’s to come and I hope it means we’re going to get a lot more of this. They wouldn’t put a promo together for just a one off, after all. I’m hoping once we’re through with Survivor Series perhaps the Tag Titles will get mixed into the equation and that this feud will only just be getting underway.

The match itself was everything you’d expect it to be when you have four such veterans in one place at the same time. The chemistry is off the chart, all of them working so well together, it’s fluent and it makes sense and they play it to perfection. Jericho’s role as the cowardly yet cocky heel is played to perfection and ‘turning’ on his tag partner was a lovely touch. Finishing out his stint as the downright ‘expletive deleted’ by stealing the World Heavyweight Championship and running for the hills to end the show. Can I get a ‘Oh HELL no!’ please? Stealing the title is one of the oldest taunts in the book and that’s why I love it. Run for your life Y2J… insert joke about ’saving himself’ here.

But enough about Jericho, on to the real reason we were all watching tonight. Seeing The Undertaker and Kane team up again is always a welcome sight and tonight was no exception. They emerged together to a mix of their themes and made their long slow walk down to the ring. I loved the return of the giant Taker symbols on fire at the top of the ramp, it always gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside when I remember the days of old when it was seen almost every week and usually spelled the crucifixion of someone intensely annoying. You know what I’d love to see? The crucifixion of Chris Jericho! Oh yes, that would be wonderful. What are the chances of them bringing back such a controversial element however? I’d say in this day and age, slim to none, unfortunately. But oh the nostalgia. Once in the ring the brothers worked well, Kane taking on the brunt of the beating while Taker did his best ‘caged animal’ impression and paced back and forth until finally being tagged in and making like Kanye West at an awards show, stealing the spotlight and making a short blonde cry. Har Har. From there, things quickly became fast and furious as Taker unleashed some pent up tension and things spilled to the outside. I got a warm tingly feeling in the pit of my stomach as events on the outside unfolded and reminded me of the good ole days. Yes, I’m loving this. Can you tell?

The match very nearly ended with a legit win however things fell apart as a dazed Jericho hit the Codebreaker on his own partner then bolted from the ring stealing the title on his way. Leaving a very angry Undertaker in his wake. Question; Why would you willingly upset someone as large as The Undertaker?

Anybody?

Roll on Sunday. I cant wait!

Hmm, I just posted this comment in the spoilers thread, but it seems more appropriate for this thread, so feel free to delete my comment in the smackdown spoilers thread if you feel like it.

Oh man, it was great to see the brothers of destruction side by side again. I feel bad for Kane; he never got the right push when he was in his prime and deserved at least one long title reign. Now he’s gotten somewhat fatter and slower, although he was never that skinny to begin with. Making Kane lose the mask and long hair was one of the stupidest decisions that WWE has made. However, I do understand from some scuttlebutt around the internet, that Kane may have agreed to lose the mask because it gave him breathing problems. But then again, who can believe all those rumors on the internet.

Before breaking point, Taker ’stole’ the title from Punk and we all know what happened – Punk retained. Therefore I see Taker retaining the title at SS, plus I just can’t picture either Slow or Jericho holding 3 (or 2 depending how you count the tag title belts) belts at the same time. I haven’t been watching WWE that much recently except when Taker in on, but I can’t remember any time recently when a wrestler held more than one title simultaneously.

Random side note: I was watching the triple threat match between Kurt Angle v Taker v The Rock from Vengeance 2002 earlier for a blast from the past and Taker performed the olympic slam better than Kurt Angle… lol.. Taker should add that move to his standard repertoire. haha, kidding, but I was excited and reminded how great Taker is (yet again) when he performs another wrestler’s finishing move better than they do =)

I don’t think they will make a feud off of this..although I would love for them to do so. The match was great, taker and kane comming out together was great I enjoyed every bit of it, even the finish.

My only problem with smackdown doesn’t even concern taker or any superstars it concerns that damn Mcmahon, it seems to me that down the road Teddy Long maybe on the receiving end of a beat down that should be inteneded for Vince, i’m so tired of what hes doing with Long and don’t even get me started with Vickie…Long is a great GM( probably the best smackdon has ever had)so what are we seeing Vickie again for? Hes not someone just to be stepped on.

its only best for me to ask all my true undertaker fans since we know best :WHAT IS UNDERTAKERS BEST MATCH OF ALL TIME AND GREATEST RIVAL EVER

The entrance was amazing…I still wish they had undertakers theme from 1998. That would be awesome

Jen, could you tell us, how the brothers worked on the Pyros? Did Kane bring up the flames before the match or after the match?

Well I don’t see a tag team feud between BoD and JeriSLow, because Taker is not much about tag teams in this persona and he teams up with Kane occasionaly, and because the SLow-Y2J alliance also seems to be breaking. I think it will result in singles feuds between Taker/ Y2J (for sure) and Kane/ Big SLow (maybe).

Y2J is screw with the both the Undertaker and bigh and he might just get hurt adly by both and I see the BOD as the next Tag champions.

Taker and Kane entering the ring together was cool. The cheers they got were colossal. I must say Kane looked a little odd when he walked beside the dead-man. The dead-man looked so smart, and Kane looked like an ogre with a big belly like Shrek ;-) damn, bring back the masked Kane and make him wear his original attire.

First, the entrance was like the first time Undertaker and Kane reconciled back in 1998 bfr their match with SCSA. Undertaker will win this Sunday, and the Dark Lord will once again reign supreme over his legions of Creatures of the Night!
