Digitals | Captures | Watch the Match on WWE.com

I make no excuses for this week being a bona fide fangirl while watching Smackdown. I am and always will be a long serving ‘Taker fan, since the day he first stepped through that curtain I’ve followed and cheered and been on a hell of a ride (thanks for that, by the way, big guy). Most people that know me know that while I’m a huge fan of the Deadman, I’m very hard to impress when it comes to his fellow Superstars. It’s not to say there aren’t many men and women working in the WWE just as hard as he does, it’s simply that I don’t often take to ‘characters’ very often and I’m all about the soap opera aspect of wrestling. The other ‘characters’ that I’ve been a fan of over the years are few and far between. To name them, though; Eddie Guerrero (I miss you), Kane, Shawn Michaels, The Rock, Jake Roberts and Mankind. I don’t impress easily and when one of those men steps toe to toe with The Undertaker I am in all kinds of Heaven.

Well, I am there again. My other top favorite of the WWE is Chris Jericho. Since he first stepped through that WWE curtain I’ve been on his side through most things. Until now, I am firmly in Takers corner. Yes, folks, I am now an uber dribbling fangirl running around squealing about the fact that my two favorites are going to be working together for the foreseeable future. So please bear with me as I try to find the right words. I’m sure many of you are wondering what’s such a big deal about them facing off on Smackdown. Let’s just say I’ve been waiting for it for ten years. This really has been a long time coming and I plan on enjoying it thoroughly.

So now I’ve got that out of the way, I commence with the fawning. This week Taker stepped back into the ring after a quiet week last week and he did not disappoint. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I felt as though his feud with CM Punk never really got off the ground. The two of them just seemed to lack a certain chemistry and buzz in the ring. No fault of either man, just simply did not click. It was slow moving and a little lackluster and honestly I’m glad it’s over. I’m even more glad about where he is now headed, however. Our World Heavyweight Champion has himself some major competition now in the cunning Jericho and to watch I firmly believe these two can put on a stunning show given the right platform. Will they feud through to Mania? So long as they can draw it out without it becoming stale, I completely hope so. I reckon ‘Taker and Jericho can give us an all time classic match and I cant wait to see it. This week they got their hands on one another for the first time and set the pace for this feud to come. It was a solid effort that really felt like two men feeling one another out and seeing what the other can bring to the table. The chemistry is there, the fluidity is there. Oh, I’m grinning like a big girl.

‘Physically’ he’s looking better and better each week. His lighter workload is obviously working for him and despite being out on a grueling two week Euro tour right now he didn’t miss a beat at this Smackdown taping. I believe he’s now coming through to the other side of his surgical recovery and seems to be moving much more easily. He and Jericho just ‘worked’ and this match felt to me like something of a foreshadowing to the upcoming feud. This week we also discovered how The Big Show will factor into the big scheme of things and I’m starting to get a decidedly ‘Power Trip’ feud feeling about all of this. Which is just fine by me (for anybody that wasn’t watching for that. The Undertaker & Kane battled Triple H & Steve Austin in 2001 with all of the titles on the line in one of my favorite feuds of all time). Pairing Show and Jericho up against The Undertaker and his brother Kane. This occurred as The Undertaker got a ‘Hells Gate’ submission win over Jericho in their debut bout and The Big Show decided to come down to the ring, he and Jericho pairing up to put the beatdown on ‘Taker. Getting him into their ‘torture rack’ like submission hold. This was broken up by the arrival of Kane. Chasing the dogs off and helping his brother back to his feet.

Here is where my one bone of contention comes in to play however. The WWE spend so much time protecting The Undertakers character and mythos. Yet persist in having his opponents declare him to be ‘just a man’ and in this instance, have one of the commentators state ‘Well of course hes human, just with an inhuman pain threshold’. Make up your minds, and if he is indeed ‘human’ then can we please see him out and about doing signings and interviews more often? You cant have it all ways, I’m sorry.

Anyway, we then cut to backstage and Vince McMahon on the ‘phone’ to Teddy Long and the match is announced. Next week The Undertaker and Kane will face Chris Jericho and The Big Show. Now my only question is will they re-do the Power Trip feud and get all of the titles on the line? I personally would love to see a big ‘winner takes all’ tag feud and perhaps that is where this should/could go to keep Jericho and Taker simmering all the way to Mania! With the Tag Titles and the World Heavyweight Championship on the line, this is a tag feud that could be pretty epic! So I wait with interest to see where they go with this. Survivor Series is just around the corner and I haven’t been quite so excited about Wrestling in quite a while, with my birthday on Sunday this was the best gift I could have gotten from the ole Deadman. In fact I have to stop writing now and go and giggle like a girl. Yey!!

good posting jen, couldn’t agree with you more, but for some reason I cant help feel a kane betrayal on taker here, it just smells funny with vince in the shadows

I hear you Jen. I’m behind Taker all the way and I know that whenever he’s on TV, I get all excited. This match tonight was great and to see Taker countered Jericho’s finisher was amazing. Although I didn’t like Big slow getting involved after the match, but I’m glad Kane came out and made the save. I so can’t wait for next week. BOD reunites against Jerishow. That’s gonna be a great match.

My wish a few months ago was that the UNDERTAKER would come back, and team up with his brother Kane to become the tag team champs, and tonight SMACK DOWN looks like it will happen. Do not get me wrong, I am glad the UNDERTAKER is Heavy weight champ, it’s just I like seeing it when the Brothers Of Distruction Team up. Next week is going to be a great battle.

I too feel a Kane betrayal.. of course ultimately it’s Vince’s plan.

But gdamn.. have we ever seen someone Counter that many moves from Taker, in one match?

I applaud Jericho for the flawlessness of this match… and Taker for selling how bad Jericho got him.

I’ll say boo to the post match antics when Kane came out.. lol wtf.

Good match, but is it just me or did jericho seem a little sloppy last night? Maybe they were just feeling each other out, or at least I hope so. This can be a classic mania match if they can work together good enough. Also glad to see BOD back, but something with Kane doesn’t seem right.

Jen said it all……got nothing more to agree on…

I don’t see a Kane betrayal. Rather I see a Kane vs Big SLow feud emerging out of this.

Nice post. :) However, I tend to agree with all this “human/inhuman” thing. Taker’s opponents see him as “inhuman” because of his strength, not because of some weird, sci-fi thing, that would be beyond stupid. So yes, he is “human”, but his dark persona, his blurry background and his amazing strength and endurance make him as everyone says: “inhuman”.
About Kane, I see this reunion as a push for him, and it’s about damn time. I don’t think Kane will turn heal on his bro or something, but he will win more often, maybe even a title with or without Taker.

    P.S. Happy birthday! :)

    Guys!

I am sure, we may not witness a feud similar to BOD vs Two Man Power Trip, but I am sure, we can see a feud similar to BOD vs MVP/Mr. Kennedy.

I do agree that the above said match was a squash match in favor of BOD, but the highlight of that match was the perfect blend between destruction from BOD’s side and comedy from MVP/Mr. Kennedy’s side like running from BOD and Theodre Long interfering to call the match a no DQ etc.

I am sure something comical will happen when JeriShow are in the ring. With Jericho’s BIG MOUTH and Big Show’s DUMB attitude mixed with the destruction that Kane and Taker are going to bring down it certainly is going to be an exciting one.

Taker will retain the title but might have a one-off feud with Kane at Armagaeddon. Although this feud may not be as intense as Taker vs Kane in 1998 Wrestle Mania, but I am sure Taker will return the favor to Kane for helping him out with JeriShow by giving him a title opportunity at Armagaeddon. I am very sure Taker will then have another one-off feud with Batista until Rumble.

Meanwhile, Jericho will break up all ties with Show, and might appear weak untill the Rumble, and will pull up a surprize win at the Rumble. As every top superstar gets one opportunity atleast to win the Rumble, this time I am sure it’s going to be Chris Jericho. Although Edge was a contender for winning the Rumble, it looks like he is going to return only after WM 26, so it’s got to be Jericho for sure. As other main-eventers have already won the Rumble atleast once, such as Cena, Taker, Orton, Triple H, Michaels, Batista etc.

Then would start the mind games between Taker and Jericho, and at WM 26 Taker will defend both his streak and his WHC title for the first time. The result though will be 18–0 favoring Taker, I am sure it will be a hell of a match, equalling Taker vs Shawn Michaels performance in WM 25.

I also did not like when big show makes his entrance at the end
    that was un called for

Jen you are not alone. Not all of his female fan base is brave enough to come one here and put their gushing in to words.

What was coming to mind as I was viewing the clips what that saying I keep seeing because it is the Christmans Hoilday and in all the catalogues about “living one day less than you, so I would not have to live one day with out you.”

I disagree with the CMPunk storyline. With there only being a few wrestlers availabe to wrestle the beating a dead horse thing had to stop for a least a minute or two. I got so tired of seeing the same opponent over and over again. CMPunk had attitude. I like seeing him use it. Taker needed fresh blood and badly.

Ok admit it. Who saw the “I am getting to old for this” look?

I was looking for the “is that all you got” look and did not see it.

When he get holds you know he knows how to get out of and takes his blasted time doing it I can’t remember yellling at the TV in a long time.

Teddy on probation. The kids love the brothers. You know there is a toy sale in the works for this pinned with suvivor series.

Dark Heart, Dark Heart, Dark Heart. The Undertaker….loves what he does.

  12. Lucinda (yeah, me, long time no see!) (6 days, 2 hours ago)

    Yo!

Awww, Jen, that was so cute! But, seriously, I’m hoping for a lot out of this potential feud…it could really be great. Both men are, simply put, great wrestlers, and while I can’t say it’ll be of “Shawn vs. ‘Taker” caliber, I’m sure it’ll be pretty freakin’ close.

Also, if ‘Taker somehow ends up with multiple titles…I might just have to throw a party. A BIG party. Y’all are invited, in advance. Party at my place~! (Just kidding…somewhat).

Oh, and if another Kane vs. Big Slow feud emerges… *dusts off old riot gear*

    Ciao!

I have to agree with some of the comments on this website, it was good to see Kane come out and help the Undertaker, but I have a feeling in my water with Vince lurking in the shadows, that it is a plan for Kane to betray the Undertaker, which I hope is not true, I would really like to see the tag titles and thw whc on the line, which of course will be won by Kane and the Undertaker. Which will also start a rivalary with the Big Slow and Kane.

  14. Mony (Hanni85) (5 days, 19 hours ago)

I love that Kane and Taker are back together, I just hate this whole thing of Vince in the story….don’t trust him at all! He needs to go back to Raw.

I was thinking the same thing, but the fact that Armageddon is now called TLC, if Taker retains at Survivor Series it means he will have to face his next opponent in a TLC, Ladder, or Tables match, possible match types rumored to occur at the ppv aside TLC. Could Taker and Kane really put on an epic match with any of those stipulations? As much as I like their matches, I can’t really picture either of them putting on an epic ladder match or even a good tables match. It wouldn’t seem all that exciting. That’s just my take on it.

But Taker vs Edge TLC match was a classic? I loved Taker’s performance in it and the way he kicked a**es of all 4-5 guys, before going down. Even though Taker lost it, I think it was my favourite match of 2008 apart from the Elimination chamber.

I dont think i have ever heard undertaker grunt like that when he sat up

I liked Taker’s match against Edge, but Kane cannot put on the same performance Edge could, which would then limit what Undertaker can do. Two big guys aren’t meant to be in a ladder match. Put those two in a cage and then it’s a different story.

  20. Mayank Shridhar (4 days, 16 hours ago)

Yes that is true. My favourites were their 1st Mania match and their 1st inferno match.

  21. Trindle (4 days, 9 hours ago)

Same here. I like all their matches including their one after Wrestlemania in 2008. The fans couldn’t appreciate the match it seemed, but I did. Ironically, not that long before I was pondering the thought of what a Taker/Kane match would look like now. Then that match came along.

  22. chris (4 days, 8 hours ago)

I wouldn’t have had a problem with Show’s run-in if it had happened before Jericho’s ridiculously fast tap-out to the Hell’s Gate (way to blow off a big money feud, Vince). It leads me to an interesting thought, though. Show was slow to make the save for Jericho. Kane was slow to make the save for Taker. What if we see a double-doublecross leading to Taker and Show versus Kane and Jericho?

  23. Mayank Shridhar (3 days, 16 hours ago)

I was disappointed – I expected a few chokeslams and tombstones to happen but instead Big SLow left without getting beaten up and Jericho left after just a big boot.
