The rumors are done. Taker/Punk at WM 29. Finally it’s set in stone, after WWE serves up a fatal four way match for the Opportunity.

    • Brad on March 5th, 2013 says:

@Ed Burns I wouldn’t set in stone just yet could be any of these four men

    • Jessica on March 5th, 2013 says:

The fatal four way is a great idea, once punk wins he will break his losing streak & gain some momentum going it to WM! So exciting that this is in my home town- had I known taker would return I’d have bought tickets :-\

I like that Sheamus is in this match tonight. He has said once or twice that he wants to face Taker at Mania. I prefer Punk right now, but they could throw a curve ball and have him win. Of course I don’t count out the other two either, but they have had their chance.

This is an awesome way to kick the build off. Number 1, it’s not as typical as it was the last two or three years. Number 2 and more importantly, we have four top guys, all former World Champions vying for a shot at The Streak. It just proves how valuable The streak is and what it means. Hell, even HBK had to earn the right to face him in 2009. That’s how important The Streak is.

I can see Sheamus down the line somewhere if Taker stays that long/ With his one match a year schedule, I can definitely see Sheamus and possibly Ryback.

Big Show….had his chances against Taker many times. He brought up how he faced Taker before. But he couldn’t even beat him in a handicap match. And they met while Show had the KO Punch. It just wasn’t at WM. Bottom line….not this year. Perhaps never. Taker’s got a handful left and it should be used to face those who’s never met him at WM before aside from Kane, but that’s only because I feel taker should be Kane’s last opponent due to their history. Perhaps they’ll both be each other’s final opponents although I’d want Taker’s final opponent to a brand new, never before done challenge.

Orton…..Few years ago, I favored this rematch. But Orton, while more experienced that he was in 2005, isn’t really as high in the ranks as a multi-time Champion should be. He’s been feuding with mid-carders lately. This may be his punishment for that wellness violation or could be because they don’t know what to do with him. It’s so obvious he needs a hell turn, he knows it and has been wanting to turn heel for sometime now.

This leaves Punk. If you’ve been following the last several months of WWE, then you’ll know it’s obvious as to why this is the only logical choice for this year.

But you bring up good point in saying they could throw a curve ball. This is the time of year they do that. However, I don’t see it happening with Taker’s build.

Let’s eliminate the speculation… The Shield is gonna help Punk win… Punk/Taker’s still set in stone. The Shield vs Orton, Show, and Sheamus at WM 29 is gonna be booked after tonight.

      @ Anan:

I agree with you. I mentioned the curve ball, but I don’t believe that they will throw one at us. Sheamus, RKO, and even Big Show all have issues with Shield so I certainly expect that to continue tonight leaving Punk without anyone to face. Taker is the obvious choice and given the speeches Punk has made lately, I can put up any amount of money on those two competing.

Big Show is by far the worst choice of the bunch so I will not even go there. I noticed that you mentioned Ryback though. That would be neat, but he is far from ready for a match like that. If this was 2004-2009, I could certainly see Ryback and Taker competing a few times to build Ryback a bit. Wresltemania is out of the question when it comes to Taker and Ryback though. I feel like Ryback is already losing his buzz.

Randy is a good competitor, but we have seen it.. Randy needs to turn heel first anyway because his current character just would not work in a match like this. He would need to create a character that would give us reason to believe that he can defeat Taker. As you said, he has been feuding with mid carders lately and I just don’t see him as a big time guy like was in the past. HIs face turn has diminished his reputation in my opinion. Or maybe it is just because of how he has been used.

In the end, Punk is the best choice by far and I also agree that Taker should face new guys at Wrestlemania. While Punk is not a new challenger, he is a new challenger for Mania. These two can create a great match and perhaps a great story too. From here on out, I believe that only new challengers should be used for Taker at Mania and it starts with Punk.

For those of you who didn’t catch the fatal 4 way match at the end. Punk won the match, and during his win celebration, guess what! yep, the famous ‘gong’ and the lights went out and Taker came out and had a long stare down with Punk. So the WM 29 is definately set. It was a lovely sight, seeing Taker once again standing on that enterance ramp with his pyro’s all around him. Beautifull.

I’m only going to say this… the last match of the undertaker HAS TO BE… with Kane.
Kane absorbing taker’s power… that would be awsome!…

It’s my way to look at it…

    • BillyofMaryland on March 6th, 2013 says:

Am I the only one that noticed that Taker has a “Shredder” complex lol. I know he had spiky attire briefly as Demonic Undertaker, but it reminds me of a cross between Ministry/Big Evil. Glad the Deadman’s back, and I hope he’ll stay a little bit after WM 29, but he doesn’t have to if he doesn’t want to. Taker after all has nothing left to prove. We know he’s “the Best in the World,” and I hope him and Jericho will @ some point tangle.

Why would The Shield help Punk when
      1. They have their own business to take care of with Ryback, Sheamus, Big Show (who I cannot see teaming with Ryback or Sheamus) and Orton, which is enough to take attention away from helping Punk and focus on those threats because when it’s 3 on 3, Shield’s usually on the run.

      2. They didn’t help Punk at Elimination Chamber. Nor have they helped them since it was discovered that Heyman had been paying them off to help Punk out. Now that there’s no more payment, they’re done helping him as it does not benefit the trio one single bit.

With that said, I don’t get how you got to that conclusion.

WRONG. Kane’s last match should be Taker. Taker needs a new challenger, someone he’s never faced before as a final opponent.

Some of what you said mirrors portions of my previous comment.

Punk’s really in the same boat as Rock and Cena. They’ve met before. Just not at WM. I’ guess Jericho fits too. But unlike the other names mentioned here, he & Taker never met one on one on a PPV.

Provided Taker does have five more matches left to reach 25-0, here’s how I’d want it to play out:
      WM29 – Punk
The rest are in no particular order:
WM30 – I can see WWE having Taker vs Cena here. But I personally would want him to face Jericho since they never met one on one on a PPV so in that sense, it’d be new. Plus, Taker vs Cena is arguably or not arguably depending on who’s opinion, is gonna be bigger as it’s two if the top guys one on one at The Show Of Shows. If Austin wrestles there, he’d want his final match to be with Punk but doesn’t want his final match to be overshadowed by anything else. Taker vs Cena will eclipse Austin vs Punk even by a tiny margin. Therefore, should Austin wrestle next year….
WM31 – Sting. I know he’s be older by this time. But Taker and Sting only get better with age and by this time, Sting has got to be dine with TNA. Hell, TNA may not exist all all or at least be a rapidly sinking ship by this time. Perfect way for both careers to end with The Dream Match of all Dream Matches with each being a new challenge to the other. Now, I want Sting to be Taker’s last match. But if Taker has five more, he’ll last till WM33 unless he skips one of them to be healthier for the next one. Either way, Sting will be older than he is now. And though he gets better with age (otherwise he’d be done by now), he stated many times he can’t see himself going much longer. Therefore, it has to happen here unless by some miracle from God which is the only way the impossible can become reality, Sting manages to be able to compete at WM32 or 33.
WM32 – Kane. I’d imagine Kane would be done here. He’s in his 40′s and has nothing to prove. He’s been involved in the creative side of things backstage lately so I feel he’d be there once his ring days end provided he chooses to remain in WWE. Due to their history and everything else, Taker’s the only logical option to be Kane’s last match. But Kane needs to be in his monster status by this time.
WM33 – Cena. I don’t think he should be Taker’s final opponent. But there’s really no one else. Ryback or Sheamus or Barrett, while they’d great opponents by this time wouldn’t have the credentials to be Taker’s last match IMO. Rock would be great too. But with his come and go and movie schedules, he doesn’t really deserve to be Taker’s last match IMO. Nor would Orton as that’s been done at WM already.

But by WM30, I feel my list of opponents will change is some way or another.
