The Daytona Beach News Journal has a piece on why Taker needs to make a decision now on his Mania plans… Here’s the piece below:

    - The Undertaker needs to decide his WrestleMania plans now

As of today, there is still no official word on whether the Undertaker will have a match at WrestleMania 29.
    This is ridiculous.

I know the Undertaker is old in wrestling terms (he is 47) and banged up (with hip and shoulder injuries), but his still-undecided status is holding up the top one, or two, or maybe even three, matches on the card.

If the Undertaker says “yes” to WM29, we’ll get the Undertaker vs. CM Punk.

That is a match that needs a little bit of buildup.

It’s not fair to Punk, who has been WWE’s MVP the last two years, to not yet have a match on the biggest card of the year.

If the Undertaker says “no” to WM29, then Punk needs an opponent.

Punk’s choices are a singles match against Ryback, or a spot in the WWE Title Match with John Cena and The Rock.

Those matches, especially the latter, need even more time for proper buildup.

A decision by The Deadman needs to happen fast.

At least we know Punk’s likely feud for the summer — one against a babyface Brock Lesnar. -

Now with all of that said in the article, Punk’s currently in a feud with the Rock. It wouldn’t make sense for Taker to just suddenly appear, and challenge Punk for a match at Mania. In all honesty, I believe the match, and the build are already set. 2 years ago, Taker didn’t return to TV until the night after Elimination Chamber. I believe that if he’s gonna wrestle at WM 29, he returns the night after Elimination Chamber. There’s gonna be 6 weeks between the Chamber PPV, and WM 29. That’s plenty of time to build the match, provided that’s the direction WWE is going to go…

Like I said before for 100 times,it doesn’t make sense for Taker to appear right now in the middle of Punk/Rock match. The only reasonable time is at EC or the RAW after it which I’m sure he’ll come then

    • Aarron on February 10th, 2013 says:

Once again, gonna have to wait till Raw on the 18th to see what happens! If she shows up, Awesome! If he doesn’t appear or doesn’t wrestle this WM then so be it, I respect his desicion! He’s given everything to WWE and us fans!

    • Roy Arkon on February 10th, 2013 says:

You are totally right about the build up for a match against Punk. 6 weeks is enough time to build the match.

    • Xikar on February 10th, 2013 says:

I’m just saying but this news article is a cry baby. It doesn’t that punk is MVP two years. Taker is the veteran and earnd to do things his way his terms and time Vimce knows this. We all know this. Punk can cry for all I care

    • etienne on February 10th, 2013 says:

Well I’m not gonna get my hopes up for EC…. maybe the raw after but honestly ive been trying not to listen to any of the rumors of him not having a match at wm29… I’ve pretty much gotten to the point where if he has decided not to have a match this year then im fine…. If he does i will be ecstatic… but its up to him…. Time will tell, so i’m willing to be patient.

    • Anan on February 11th, 2013 says:

There’s things I don’t agree with this article.

      1. His still-undecided status is holding up the top one, or two, or maybe even three, matches on the card.

      2. It’s not fair to Punk, who has been WWE’s MVP the last two years, to not yet have a match on the biggest card of the year.

      3. Punk’s choices are a singles match against Ryback, or a spot in the WWE Title Match with John Cena and The Rock.

      4. At least we know Punk’s likely feud for the summer — one against a babyface Brock Lesnar.

The reporter is talking like every other reporter pretty much as if he knows everything. First off, Taker doesn’t need to do anything. Not for us. He’s done more than enough. He carried this company after Hogan and Savage left, after Warrior was repeatedly fired, before HHH, Austin and Rock came and after they, along with Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart left. He gave his life to WWE for close to 30 years. That’s more than anyone that has ever been on the active roster. I can’t see anyone else even attempting such a feat.

His still-undecided status is holding up the top one, or two, or maybe even three, matches on the card? This may be right. But it isn’t to me. Nothing’s stopping WWE from making a back-up plan, which they have probably already finalized by now if Taker decides not to be at WM. They could inform Taker that they already have a Plan B set in place if he decides not to compete. That may help Taker make his decision sooner.

It’s not fair to Punk, who has been WWE’s MVP the last two years, to not yet have a match on the biggest card of the year? No. What is unfair is all these reporters spreading rumors about Taker regarding his health and retirement every year, thus ruing WM Season, which is when WWE’s at their absolute best. It’s not fair to Taker, to the WWE or to the fans. And that includes the guy who wrote this report. Not fair to Punk. Give me a break. The unfairness to Taker far exceeds the unfairness to Punk, if in fact there is any unfairness to the Straight Edge Superstar.

Punk’s choices are a singles match against Ryback, or a spot in the WWE Title Match with John Cena and The Rock? Ok. First off, reports state Jericho is gonna face Ryback to help elevate him further. If not that, then perhaps Ryback will be involved somehow with Shield. Cena and Sheamus may be done with that trip at Elimination Chamber. But will Ryback be done? We won’t know till the 6 man Tag at the PPV concludes. As for Rock-Cena, I feel WWE’s pretty strong about keeping this one on one.

At least we know Punk’s likely feud for the summer — one against a babyface Brock Lesnar? The reporter obviously knows WWE’s future plans better than anyone, doesn’t he??? Future plans that can always change at the drop of a dime. Babyface Lesnar? Really? After the way he’s been hyped, built and portrayed ever since his return after WM28, a babyface Lesnar? Really?!! More like babyface Punk.
Heyman has not been with Punk the last two weeks so they may have quietly parted ways. At least for now with the return of Brock Lesnar. That’s too bad. I was kinda wanting to see Taker return and verbally get into it with both Punk and Heyman. I really can’t see Brock forming an alliance with anyone. But I still feel he and Punk will feud soon. Whether or not it’s at Summerslam remains to be seen. I also read reports stating The Rock may face Lesnar at Summerslam. Summerslam’s still 6 months away. WWE’s plans changes fast so I believe by the time they start building the main event, they would have made a billion changes to the main event as to who’s in it, what match it’ll be, whether or not it’ll close the show, who’ll win and how, etc.

As for Taker, it’s as I’ve said all along. We’ll know during the week after Elimination Chamber if he’s chosen to work WM. Most likely on RAW, the night after Elimination Chamber. Let’s say he doesn’t show up then. You guys can believe or jump to any conclusions you like. But knowing Taker, just because he doesn’t show up on RAW doesn’t mean hes’s skipping WM. He can, by surprise show up on SD or the two weeks after the Elimination Chamber on RAW. That’s just how he is. He keeps you guessing as to when he’ll return to build anticipation and allow you to be surprised when he does return. Even five weeks of build-up will be good enough for Taker vs Punk although six would be better.

    • Anan on February 11th, 2013 says:

If you ask me, I think Taker already made his decision and gave it to WWE. It just hasn’t been revealed to us……yet. But it will soon.

    • Anan on February 11th, 2013 says:

I don’t know if I’d call it better. Jericho comes and goes while Punk works all year long. Punk could use the rub more than Jericho, who doesn’t even need it at this point as wrestling’s not his #1 priority anymore. Punk’s the MVP right now. Even Jericho will attest to that if you asked him. Taker is Taker. So Taker vs Punk IS a show-stealer and there’s no better than that right now. Besides, Jericho’s set to turn heel and face Ryback to help elevate the big man further or so the reports claim.

I personally like that WWE’s keeping unusually “tight-lipped” about Taker’s return. It makes it less predictable, and no one wants to market it like “oh well, here’s Undertaker returning in time for WM.”
