Two decades later The Undertaker is the most feared and respected wrestler not just in the WWE, but in the entire wrestling community. Smackdown starts with CM Punk gloating about making Taker tap and his vegetative state. Suddenly the lights flicker and go dark and Undertaker appears in the ring! Punk cowers until he pokes Taker and reveals him as Luke Gallows. They laugh until Kane hits the scene, but Swagger blindsides him. Four-on-one as the masked SES member joins, until Mysterio and Big Show make the save. SES runs and they end up giving Kane a 619 and chokeslam respectively for last week.
Main event saw Big Show and Rey Mysterio beat CM Punk and Jack Swagger. Mysterio got double-teamed until he made the hot tag to Show. Chokeslam reversed into a DDT and Show tagged back out. Mysterio reversed a Pump-Handle Slam attempt by Swagger into a sort of Backstabber for the win.
Post-match Kane chokeslammed everyone but gave a Tombstone Piledriver to Rey. He got on the mic and promised Sunday would be “fatal.” Then he did Undertaker’s kneel and an open casket on the stage was surrounded by plumes of fire. Kane left the open casket and walked out to end the show.
Rey Mysterio comes out and talks about last week’s show where he won the SmackDown battle royal and says it’ll be his World Title. He’s cut off by Jack Swagger’s music. Swagger comes out and tells Rey to capitalize on the misfortune of The Undertaker. He then mocks Mysterio where he says he was winning in. Lots of 619 chants. Rey thinks all that education went to a waste and says he’s proud of his heritage. CM Punks comes out with SES and says “Malcom X got JFK in 1963″ and this time he fell victim to the Season One NXT rookies. Punk then talks about how he’ll be a four time straightedge World Heavyweight Champion.
Rey Mysterio tells CM Punk that he is daring to take his mask off after Punk had his head shaved. Big Show comes out and says he will take care of business where he’ll beat three competitors and walk out the World Champion. Big Show then mocks Punk by saying he looks good bald. He can’t help but wonder if Kane’s responsible for Undertaker’s demise. When Kane finds out who did it someone will end up in Taker’s casket. Kane says it could be four people that did it and promises their will be vengeance.
SmackDown opened up with Teddy Long announcing that over the weekend, The Undertaker had been found by his brother Kane in a “vegetative” state. The intro played and then the lights went off. The druids came to the ring with a casket. Kane then came down and got in the ring which had a podium, a wreath and a wreath on a ring post. He asked for the casket to be opened. He talked about what happened. Kane kept saying that Taker would not come back from the dead again, that he was gone. He vowed that there would be vengeance, the likes of which we’ve never seen before. He then tore the ring up and dropped down by the ropes in front of the casket and was all kinds of upset.
Throughout the show, Kane was shown backstage, talking to people (Punk, Rey Mysterio, etc) trying to figure out who did this to Taker and that he couldn’t trust anybody.
The main event on Smackdown was Punk vs. The Undertaker. The crowd was totally behind Taker. Punk kept running away, to serious heat. The match finally started and after Taker beat up Punk and Gallows, Punk went after the bad knees of Taker. Taker came back and Tombstoned Punk and Chokeslammed Gallows. Punk pulled himself up on Taker just like Michaels did at WrestleMania but Taker Tombstoned him again, to a happy crowd. Taker said to Punk “never mistake respect for weakness again.” Good stuff for a guy who just two days ago had his best match I’ve seen.
It seems the WWE has already taped Smackdown for this week on Monday itself along with Raw. The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels are not mentioned in any of the spoilers that I checked (Wrestlezone and Wrestling News World). We will update this if we get more information.
* Teddy Long is backstage with Drew McIntyre. Long says he’ll face Undertaker tonight.
* Undertaker b. Drew McIntyre in a quick squash match.
- Undertaker comes out to the biggest pop of the night. They wait until he is beside the ring until they hit his pyro. He gets the quick win with the Tombstone.
After the match, Shawn Michaels is waiting for Undertaker at the top of the ramp. Taker reverses Sweet Chin Music and goes for a Tombstone but Shawn reverses again. His music hits and he poses to end this week’s SmackDown.
* Cryme Tyme vs. The Hart Dynasty ends in a no contest when The Undertaker comes out and lays all four out with his trademark moves. Taker puts the Hell’s Gate on JTG.
